About Construction Marketing Ideas

The Construction Marketing Ideas blog traces its roots to late October, 2006, and a key business inflection point in the history of the Construction News and Report Group of Companies.  Over three years, the business had shrunk from a multi-national enterprise with local publications in several U.S. and Canadian cities (including Washington D.C.) to a tiny business hanging on for survival.

The blog symbolized a values shift that also reversed the declining business fortunes.  Switching from a philosophy of selling advertising based purely on supply chain relationships, to recognizing that all advertisers are valued clients, company president Mark Buckshon set out to learn all he could about effective marketing and promotion for the construction industry, with the aim of providing free consulting and advice to clients.

He joined the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS), attained credentials as a Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM), and thought of ways he could communicate this knowledge to clients.  In addition to the bi-weekly Construction Marketing Ideas Newsletter, he started the Construction Marketing Ideas blog, initially on Google’s Blogger service.  (The blog remains there today, and occasionally you can find new posts online.)

The blog proved to be one of the first for the construction industry.  With daily updates, it has now become one of the leading reference sources within the industry.  Relationships developed within SMPS and from the blog led to the launch of the Design and Construction Report, a magazine that explores the evolving trends of conventional and online marketing.

We continue to publish The Ottawa Construction News, GTA Construction Report, and Ontario Construction Report in Canada, and in North Carolina, The Charlotte Construction News and Triad/Triangle Construction News.
